Did you know that nearly one-third of all food produced globally for human consumption is lost or wasted each year? 🍽️🌍 That's approximately 1.3 billion tons of food – enough to feed 3 billion people!

This staggering amount of waste occurs at various stages of the food supply chain, from farm to fork. In developing countries, most food loss happens during production, handling, and storage due to poor infrastructure and technology. In contrast, developed nations see more waste at the retail and consumer levels, often due to overbuying and strict cosmetic standards for fruits and vegetables.

The impact of this waste extends beyond hunger issues. Food waste contributes to about 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. When food decomposes in landfills, it produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

Addressing food waste is crucial for global food security, especially as the world population continues to grow. Solutions range from improving storage and transportation in developing countries to changing consumer behaviors and implementing food recovery programs in developed nations.

By reducing food waste, we can feed more people, conserve resources, and mitigate climate change – making it a key factor in creating a more sustainable and food-secure world.
